Singapore Science and Engineering Fair 2008 (SSEF)

The Singapore Science and Engineering Fair (SSEF) is a national competition organised by the Ministry of Education, A*STAR and Science Centre Singapore. SSEF is open to all secondary and pre-university students between 15-21 years old who wish to showcase their research projects in science and engineering.

Held on 5-6 March, the competition saw an overwhelming 372 projects submitted and resulted in 14 Gold Award winners. Outstanding entries will represent Singapore in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) to be held in May 2008 at Atlanta, USA.

IME researchers Dr Johnny He, Dr R Gopal and Dr Pavel Neuzil were invited as judges for the SSEF 2008 together with other judges from local universities, polytechnics as well as research institutes.

Winners of the SSEF are also eligible to participate in the A*STAR Talent Search, organised by the A*STAR Graduate Academy (A*GA) which scouts for emerging scientific talents in Singapore.

Hwa Chong Institution (HCI)-Asia Pacific Young Leaders Summit 2008

A group of student leaders under the HCI-Asia Pacific Young Leaders Summit visited IME on 15 July. The visit to IME was part of a 2 weeks programme organized by A*STAR. This group of student leaders came from Asia Pacific like Japan, India, China, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. They are some outstanding representatives from their home country.

During the visit, the student delegates toured IME’s research laboratories and had the opportunity to interact with the key personnel. They gained insightful experience of IME's research and development (R&D) activities and an overview of local development in microelectronics. It was a rewarding and eye-opening experience for the students.
