Growing Enterprises with Technology Upgrade (GET-UP)

GET-UP is a pro-active integrated approach aimed at boosting the global competitiveness of local technology-intensive enterprises to equip them for the knowledge-based economy. The objective is to help promising local companies grow, glow and globalise through a holistic and integrated approach by harnessing the existing schemes of EDB, SPRING Singapore, IE Singapore and the technical capabilities of A*STAR Research Institutes to address their financial, human resource and technology constraints.

The following approach is adopted to make the combined resources of various agencies available to companies:

  • Initial company visit to understand areas of required assistance
  • Follow-up actions by relevant agencies
  • Tailoring of a package of existing financial schemes and possible technical assistance from the Research Institutes for the company

Technical Assistance & Manpower Support

Some examples of the assistance schemes available are:

Technology for Enterprise Capability Upgrading (T-UP)

From left to right: Mr Zhao Bin (T-Up researcher from IME), Mr Lim Chuan Poh (A*STAR Chairman) and Mr Michael Lee Kim Hock from Addvalue Technologies, at the T-Up sending off ceremony on 12 Sep 2007.

T-UP was launched in August 2002 by five government agencies — A*STAR, EDB, IDA, IE Singapore and SPRING Singapore, with the aim of helping Singapore enterprises upgrade their R&D capabilities through the secondment of experienced researchers from A*STAR Research Institutes.

These researchers, with their expertise and access to state-of-the-art facilities in the A*STAR institutes, can help the Singapore enterprises identify, develop and implement leading-edge technologies that can reap commercial value. At the same time, they can also train and build up the R&D human capital in the industry.

Financial co-support will be provided to the company for the salary of the researchers up to a maximum of 2 years. After this period, there is an option for companies to retain the seconded staff on a full-time basis if there is mutual agreement.

Since 2003, IME has seconded 26 researchers to 19 companies, including Advanpack Solutions, Addvalue Technologies, Freesystems, Healthstat International Pte Ltd, LNE Holdings Pte Ltd, Microcircuit Technology, Moveon Technologies Pte Ltd, Setsco Services, Solar Energy Power, Valen Technologies. WinTech Nano-Technology Services Pte Ltd etc.

Operation & Technology Roadmapping (OTR)

A*STAR Research Institutes have worked with a large number of local companies in the completion of specific research and development projects. To help the local companies improve their technology management, A*STAR has launched an Operation & Technology Roadmapping (OTR) initiative.

A roadmap is a document that identifies key requirements for a set of products or service needs. These include critical system requirements, the product and process performance targets and the technology alternatives with milestones for meeting those targets. The technology roadmap provides the 'big' picture view of the technology required to meet the various business and market needs. This ensures that any technology introductions are relevant to the company and will have a direct impact to its business. Financial co-support will also be provided to eligible companies.
